Description:

• OPTUS 10 is a geostationary satellite designed to support television broadcasts, Internet, telephone and data transmission services to Australia, New Zealand and the Antarctic region. Launched for the Australian communications firm Optus, the satellite 7,209-pound (3,270-kilogram) spacecraft hosts 24 Ku-band transponders. Optus 10 will take a geostationary slot at 164 degrees east longitude.
• The satellite, Optus 10, will be used to augment the existing fleet of SingTel Optus satellites and to assure the highest level of ongoing service into the future.

Mission details:

• Ariane 5 flight VA218, vehicle 573, placed two communications satellites in geostationary transfer orbit on Sep 11, 2014. Optus 10 is owned by Singtel Optus, the Australian subsidiary of Singapore Telecome. It is a 3970 kg Loral LS-1300 satellite with a Ku-band payload.
